January 1, 2008

Happy New Year! 2008 is starting off well for me, as I hope it is for you.

The Good Parts Movie in Production

Indie film company Almaric/B-Independent Productions is at work on a short film based on my screenplay, The Good Parts. This is a paranormal romance story about a young man and woman who perceive time in radically different ways. Directed by Allen Richards, The Good Parts will be filmed in Virginia and should be finished by this summer. It will most likely be shown at film festivals and online.

New Book: Horror Isn't a 4-Letter Word

Guide Dog Books, the non-fiction imprint of Raw Dog Screaming Press, has acquired my collection Horror Isn't a 4-Letter Word: Essays on Writing & Appreciating the Genre. The book collects all of my "Author's Notes" columns to date plus a few other things. It will come out some time this year.

New Day Job

Yes, alas, I still need to work a day job. But fortunately, I can now work at home! Thanks to my wife Deena's wonderfully successful career as a freelance web and print designer, we've taken the leap and gone into business together. Deena Warner Design LLC officially launched this fall, and I left my paralegal job in December. I'm now working 3/4-time as an office manager and junior web designer. The rest of my time is now being spent on writing.

Deena has done some great work for major companies such as Simon & Schuster, the Anne Frank Center, and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Please take a few minutes to browse our company website.

Until next time, thanks for reading my newsletter!
