Announcing a new monthly column about writing, "Author's Notes," on the Horror World website (http://www.horrorworld.org/columns.htm).  The first installment, "I'll Have One Large Blood Shake and a Side-Order of Stereotypes, Please," went up October 31st.  Look for future rants on a variety of subjects.  It's nice to finally have an outlet for my big mouth.  Contact me if there's something in particular you'd like me to flap my gums about.

--> "The Cave" sold to Cemetery Dance
I'm thrilled to announce that my short story "The Cave" sold to horror's flagship magazine, Cemetery Dance.  No word yet on what issue it will appear in.  "The Cave" concerns an estranged father and son's exploration of a condemned apartment building.

APPEARANCES

October was an incredible and busy month.

On the 14th, I was a panelist with Douglas E. Winter, Brian Keene, Ronald Damien Malfi, and John Edward Lawson at the Barnes & Noble in Annapolis, MD, for a discussion on "The Horror of Writing, The Thrill of Success & Failure: A Workshop on Horror Fiction & the Writing Life."  Raw Dog Screaming Press wrote a nice article about it, linked from my website.

On the 21st, I gave three presentations to over 200 high school students at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, VA, on the horror genre and on becoming a professional fiction writer.  The Potomac News published an article that's linked from my website.

See http://www.matthewwarner.com/appearances.htm for a CV of my speaking engagements before librarians, students, and writers.  Contact me about visiting your group or class.

--> Next up:
In January, I'm participating in the Borderlands Boot Camp for Writers, an exclusive workshop with F. Paul Wilson, Thomas Monteleone, Rich Chizmar, and David Morrell.  Then in April, I'll be at the World Horror Convention in New York City.
