Hi folks!  There's a ton of stuff happening, so let's get right to it:

DEATH SENTENCES

My collection, DEATH SENTENCES: TALES OF PUNISHMENT AND REVENGE, ships in mid-August from Undaunted Press.  Limited to 250 autographed copies.  Introduction by Gary A. Braunbeck.  Illustrated by Deena Warner.  Pre-order: http://store.yahoo.com/shocklines/desetaofpuan.html

--> * Free Audio Book *
When DEATH SENTENCES ships, download a free .mp3 audiobook of me reading one of the short stories, "Middle Passage."  The Current News headlines on my homepage at http://www.matthewwarner.com will let you know when it's available.  I only send out my newsletter every quarter or so, so you might want to drop your email addy into the "change detection" form in the lower-righthand corner to be alerted when new headlines pop up.

--> * Free Excerpt *
If you'd rather read "Middle Passage" instead of listen to it, Horrorfind Fiction is running an excerpt at this link: http://tinyurl.com/8qn9z

--> "The Cave"
The next issue of Cemetery Dance magazine will also contain a story from DEATH SENTENCES called "The Cave."  Info: http://cemeterydance.com/

--> One Hell of a Marriage
The Sevier County News was intrigued by the fact that Undaunted Press hired my wife to illustrate DEATH SENTENCES, so they ran a July 24 article about our marriage.  Read it here: http://www.seviercountynews.com/seviercountynews/default.asp?id=1&i_id=377

--> A Review Already
I'd hoped that being an associate editor at Horror World would ensure receiving a good book review from them, but the publishers are so darned honest that they forwarded the book to an independent reviewer.  I think he still liked it, though.  You can read DEATH SENTENCE's first review here: http://www.horrorworld.org/reviews.htm

--> Brian Keene Book Club
DEATH SENTENCES will be the featured selection of author Brian Keene's book club in October.  More info: http://tinyurl.com/admql

--> Wanna Help?
Post a DEATH SENTENCES banner on your website, and I'll give you a reciprocal link from mine!  Info: http://www.matthewwarner.com/dsbanner.htm

OTHER NEWS

--> New Book Announcement
Raw Dog Screaming Press has purchased my novel EYES EVERYWHERE.  It will come out in August 2006 as an autographed limited edition hardcover and as a trade hardcover.  It'll be available for pre-order in February.  You can read the publisher's press release and a short synopsis here: http://www.angelfire.com/zine2/thedreampeople/rds/press/eyeseverywhere.pdf

--> Podcast
ReallyScary.com, the horror news website, aired a recording of me reading "Landini the Magnificent" during one of its podcasts.  You can listen to it here: http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=1310

--> "Backwards Man"
Dark Discoveries magazine has purchased my short story "Backwards Man" for its fall issue.  You can buy a copy here: http://www.darkdiscoveries.com/purchase_fall_2004.html

--> * Yet More Free Stuff for You *
Fans of my wife's artwork can already sign up to receive an annual collectible--and free--Halloween card.  This year, we're collaborating.  All subscribers to her Halloween card will be entered into a drawing to receive a special one-of-one hardcover book illustrated and hand-bound by Deena and written by me.  Sign up for your free Halloween card: http://www.deenawarner.net/halloween.htm

MATT-IS-MOVING WRITING CONTEST

Yes, I'm moving.  Thank God.  In early August, Deena and I are relocating to creepy Staunton, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley.  The August edition of my Horror World column will have all kinds of pictures and cool tidbits about the town.  (Did you know that a descendant of Vlad the Impaler is buried there?)

I'm also sponsoring a writing contest with an August 24 deadline.  The prizes are publication as a sidebar to a future column and a $10 gift certificate to Shocklines.com.  Details: http://www.horrorworld.org/columns.htm

While you're there, browse the archival links for my recent columns:

"A Website Design Manifesto"  (July 2005)
"Conquering America's Greatest Fear" (June 2005)

RECOMMENDED READING

As always, I've been reading a lot of great (and not so great) books.  I thought you'd be interested in checking out the great ones:

FIREFLIES, novel and memoir by David Morrell
THE STRAW MEN, novel by Michael Marshall Smith
FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, novel by V. C. Andrews

"Horror writer Matthew Warner and illustrator Deena Warner take a scary thing like the institution of marriage and make it even scarier by the work they do."
